OUR STORY

Arshabharath (Arshabharath Bahujana Bodhavalkarana Grama Vikasana Samithi), an organization dedicated to public awareness and rural development, was established in 1987 by a group of socially conscious youth from Wayanad, led by M. M. Augustine. It was created as a civil society response to the worsening socio-environmental conditions. Arshabharath officially became a formal entity in January 1988 and was registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act of 1860 to secure legal standing and government approval. The name ‘Arshabharath’ reflects the organization’s commitment to the Indian tradition of valuing eco-social harmony.

Since its inception, Arshabharath has been engaged in various sustainable development initiatives. The organization has a proven track record of commendable service in several areas, including environmental protection and eco-restoration, women’s development and empowerment, local food security, individual and family counselling, community health, child development, and HIV/AIDS mitigation. It has also gained approval and accreditation from key government departments and agencies. Arshabharath has demonstrated its effectiveness in rural development through its work in natural resource management, women’s empowerment, local food security, and community health promotion.
